IGP Egbetokun Pledges Enhanced Security to Bolster Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy 

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening security within the nation’s marine and blue economy sectors.  This assurance was given during a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. 

The IGP emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime corridors, which are vital for trade and economic development.  He highlighted the role of the Police in supporting the NSC’s enforcement activities, particularly in ensuring compliance and transparency along port corridors.  Egbetokun pledged continued support for the Council’s Joint Task Teams to enhance security and enforcement operations within port environments  .

Dr. Ukeyima commended the longstanding partnership between the NSC and the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the collaboration has been instrumental in implementing the Nigerian Port Process Manual. He called for the deployment of additional police officers to support monitoring and enforcement teams across key port locations, including Lagos, Warri, Onne, Port Harcourt, and Calabar .

The meeting underscores the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in promoting a secure and efficient maritime sector, which is essential for the growth of Nigeria’s blue economy.
