Abuja, July 1, 2025 — In a continued effort to enhance the welfare of retired police officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has received a delegation from the Nigeria Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPON) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
During the courtesy visit, the NARPON delegation, led by its National President, presented key concerns affecting retired police personnel, particularly in the areas of pension entitlements, healthcare access, and post-retirement support services. The delegation acknowledged improvements in certain aspects but appealed for a more structured and sustainable welfare framework for retired officers who dedicated their lives to national service.
Responding to the concerns, IGP Egbetokun commended the retired officers for their enduring loyalty and selfless contribution to national peace and security. He reassured them of the Force’s commitment to addressing their welfare issues and emphasized that the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) remains steadfast in advocating for better pension administration, timely payments, and improved health insurance coverage for retirees.
“The sacrifices of our retired personnel must not go unappreciated,” the IGP stated. “We will continue to engage relevant government agencies and stakeholders to ensure our pensioners are treated with the dignity they deserve.”
The meeting also served as a platform to explore collaborative efforts between the current police administration and NARPON, particularly in areas such as mentorship, capacity building, and advisory support roles that could leverage the experience of retired officers to strengthen internal reforms within the Force.
The IGP further disclosed ongoing consultations with the Police Pension Board to enhance efficiency and transparency in pension administration, while promising to relay the delegation’s requests to appropriate authorities for urgent consideration.
As the interaction concluded, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining dialogue and strengthening ties between serving and retired officers to promote institutional integrity, morale, and welfare across all levels of the Nigerian Police Force.
