Iheanacho on Target as Celtic Draw with Red Star Belgrade in Europa League

NIGERIA – Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho found the back of the net for Celtic FC on Wednesday, but his efforts were not enough to secure a victory as the Scottish champions played out a 1-1 draw with Serbian side FK Crvena zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) in a Group Stage Europa League fixture.

The closely contested match saw Iheanacho break the deadlock in the 55th minute. The Nigerian international displayed sharp predatory instincts inside the box, slotting home a composed finish to give the hosts the lead at Celtic Park.

However, the Serbian giants responded resiliently, netting an equalizer later in the second half to ensure the points were shared.

The encounter, which lived up to its billing as a clash between two European heavyweights, saw few clear chances after the equalizer, with both teams ultimately settling for a draw.

The goal marks Iheanacho’s second since joining Celtic, signalling a positive return to form for the forward as he seeks to establish himself with his new club.

Celtic will now shift their focus back to domestic duties, where they are set to face Hibernian this Saturday in the Scottish Premiership as they continue their title defence.
