As part of preparations for the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Oyo State Government has extended economic relief to its civil and public servants through the distribution of subsidised festive commodities. A total of 2,500 workers benefited from the gesture, which included rams, bags of rice, vegetable oil, and other staple food items.
The initiative, which took place on Saturday at the premises of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS) in Total Garden, Ibadan, was supervised by the Chairman of the Corporation, Hon. Taofeek Akeugbagold. He disclosed that the intervention was directed by Governor Seyi Makinde as part of his administration’s continued commitment to the welfare and economic stability of the state’s workforce.
Akeugbagold explained that the distribution is a strategic subsidy measure to cushion the effects of rising market prices, particularly during festive periods when essential goods become more expensive. He noted that beneficiaries would repay the cost of the commodities through a convenient three-month salary deduction plan.
“This programme is designed not only to support workers during the Ileya celebration but also to reflect the governor’s unwavering concern for their economic well-being. The repayment plan is structured in a way that it won’t put undue strain on workers’ finances,” Akeugbagold stated.
He further revealed that over 5,000 workers have benefited from the scheme since its inception, with plans underway to expand the reach in future editions. According to him, the government intends to make the scheme more inclusive and robust, ensuring that more public servants can enjoy the benefits during subsequent festive periods.
Akeugbagold praised Governor Makinde’s foresight and people-centered leadership style, which, he said, continues to promote inclusive economic development and boost morale within the state’s public service.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Kunle Adeyemo, commended the government for what he described as a timely and thoughtful gesture. “With the rising cost of food and livestock, this initiative is a lifeline for families like mine. It will help us celebrate Ileya with dignity and joy,” he said.
The scheme underscores the Makinde administration’s proactive approach to cushioning economic hardship and ensuring that civil servants in Oyo State are not left behind during periods of national celebration.
