Imam Warns Against Youth Negligence, Urges Parents to Take Responsibility

By: Saidat Adewale

Imam Abdul Ganiyy Raji, the National Da’wah Officer of NASFAT, has cautioned against rising negligence among young people, warning that the trend poses serious dangers to the society if left unchecked.

Delivering today’s Friday khutbah, the Imam decried the growing influence of negative role models, citing the case of a social media influencer who claimed she could break a Guinness World Record by sleeping with 100 men within 24 hours. He said such reckless behavior reflects the moral decay affecting some youths.

The Imam also expressed concern over the increasing use of hard drugs among young people, noting that society often downplays the issue as mere “enjoyment,” while in reality it exposes them to addiction.

He warned that drug abuse can lead to criminal activities such as theft and even murder, especially when users are desperate for money.

According to him, parents also share blame for youth misconduct by ignoring warning signs and failing to guide their children properly.

He emphasized that peer pressure, poor parental guidance, and choosing the wrong role models are among the major reasons young people engage in destructive habits.

Imam Raji urged parents to create time to counsel their children, stressing that the wrong decisions should never be mistaken as the right path.

He called on families, communities, and religious institutions to intensify efforts in correcting and guiding the younger generation.
