Immigration Officer Honoured with ₦5 Million for Arresting Enugu Ritual Suspect

In a commendable act of service and dedication, Prince Ugochukwu Orji, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has been rewarded with a cash gift of five million naira for his role in apprehending a notorious native doctor who was on the run after allegedly perpetrating ritual killings in Enugu State.

The suspect, whose name has not been fully disclosed due to ongoing investigations, had been declared wanted by security agencies for reportedly engaging in human sacrifices under the guise of traditional healing practices. The manhunt for the suspect intensified after disturbing reports and evidence emerged linking him to a series of ritual-related deaths within Enugu and surrounding areas. Authorities say the native doctor had evaded capture for weeks and was believed to have crossed state lines before being intercepted.

Officer Orji, while performing his official duties at a border checkpoint, reportedly noticed irregularities in the suspect’s travel credentials and promptly raised a red flag. His vigilance and swift action led to the arrest of the suspect, who was trying to exit the country under a false identity.

In recognition of this courageous act, renowned industrialist and philanthropist, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, presented Officer Orji with a ₦5 million reward. Chief Onunkwo, a well-known figure in Anambra’s business and political spheres, is currently vying for the Anambra South senatorial seat under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming by-election.

Speaking during the presentation of the monetary award, which took place in Nnewi, Anambra State, Chief Onunkwo praised the officer for his bravery and professionalism, describing his action as a patriotic example worthy of emulation. He also emphasized the importance of rewarding integrity and vigilance in public service, especially within Nigeria’s overstretched security and immigration apparatus.

“This officer’s action not only prevented a dangerous individual from escaping justice but also sent a clear message that there are still men and women in uniform who are committed to protecting the lives and dignity of Nigerians,” Onunkwo stated.

The gesture has since been widely applauded by both members of the public and security circles, with many calling for institutional recognition for the officer beyond private donations. Some civic groups have also urged the federal government and the Ministry of Interior to officially commend Officer Orji for his exceptional conduct.

This development adds to growing concerns over the resurgence of ritual-related crimes in parts of the South-East, with calls mounting for greater regulation of traditional practices and stricter enforcement against spiritual fraudsters exploiting cultural beliefs for criminal ends.

As the suspect remains in custody, authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of his alleged crimes and to bring any accomplices to justice.
