Immunisation: Permanent Secretary Advocates Stronger Faith-Based Involvement

Lagos, Nigeria | August 10, 2025

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Mustafa, has called for greater participation of faith-based organisations in promoting immunisation and other public health initiatives across the state.

Speaking during a health stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, Dr. Mustafa emphasised that religious institutions hold significant influence in communities, making them vital partners in sensitising residents, dispelling myths, and encouraging full compliance with vaccination schedules.

He noted that while the state has recorded commendable progress in immunisation coverage, certain communities still experience vaccine hesitancy, often due to misinformation. Strengthening the role of faith leaders, he said, will help bridge trust gaps and foster wider acceptance of life-saving vaccines.

The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring that no child is left unvaccinated, adding that the collaboration between health authorities and faith-based bodies will also support other preventive health programmes.

He urged religious leaders to use their platforms to advocate for timely immunisation, stressing that a healthier population is essential for sustainable socio-economic growth in the state.
