Imo Landlord Detained for Shooting Tenant’s Son

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a landlord for shooting a young boy named Paul, who had jumped into his compound to retrieve a football.

The incident occurred on Monday at Urban Secondary School in Area N, World Bank Housing Estate, Owerri, when Paul and his schoolmates were playing football. During the game, the ball bounced into the landlord’s property, and Paul attempted to retrieve it by jumping over the fence.

However, instead of returning the ball, the landlord allegedly opened fire, hitting Paul in the waist and leaving him in critical pain.

Police Confirm Arrest
Speaking on the case, the Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed that the suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing.

“The man has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” Okoye stated.

Victim’s Guardian Seeks Prayers
Paul’s guardian, Jonathan Odikanwa, who has been seeking medical help for the boy, said his primary concern is his survival rather than escalating the matter.

Odikanwa shared, “I don’t want to escalate the issue for now. I just want my boy to survive this critical period.”

Doctors initially confirmed that no bullet remains in Paul’s body, but they are concerned about his inability to pass bowel movements.

Odikanwa explained, “The X-ray showed no bullet in his body, but doctors are wondering why his bowels are not functioning. He is scheduled for surgery to check his stomach and determine what’s wrong.”

He urged everyone to pray for Paul’s recovery, adding, “He’s been crying for water, but the doctors need to determine the cause of his condition before giving him anything.”

Paul has lived with the Odikanwa family for eight years and is currently a JSS 1 student at Urban Secondary School, Owerri.
