Imo Police Commissioner Bans Use of Unmarked Vehicles by Tactical Teams

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a stern directive to all police tactical units in the state, explicitly banning the use of unmarked vehicles in their operations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 16, 2025, the police boss read the riot act to operatives, warning that any officer found violating the new order would face disciplinary action. According to him, the directive is part of renewed efforts to curb abuses of power, enhance transparency, and rebuild public confidence in the police force.

CP Danjuma noted that concerns had been raised by residents over the activities of some tactical officers who operated in unmarked vehicles, often leading to accusations of extortion, harassment, and unlawful arrests. He stressed that such actions tarnish the image of the police and undermine their responsibility to serve and protect the public.

“All police tactical teams are henceforth barred from using unmarked vehicles while on official duty. Any team or officer caught flouting this directive will be sanctioned accordingly,” he stated.

The commissioner further encouraged citizens to report any misconduct by security operatives, assuring that the command is committed to professionalism, accountability, and maintaining law and order in line with the Inspector General of Police’s reform agenda.

This move is seen as part of broader reforms in Imo State to improve policing standards, restore public trust, and ensure officers are identifiable and held accountable in their conduct.
