ABUJA — In a renewed crackdown on violent crimes, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested two suspected kidnappers, rescued seven kidnapped victims, and recovered arms and ammunition in coordinated operations across various parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police said the arrests and rescue operations were part of a broader push to bolster internal security and dismantle criminal networks threatening lives and property.
The operations, carried out by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and other tactical squads, reportedly led to the interception of notorious kidnappers in forested hideouts where victims were being held under harsh conditions.
According to the statement, “Two suspected kidnappers were apprehended in separate sting operations, and seven abducted individuals were safely rescued without the payment of ransom. Several arms and rounds of ammunition were also recovered during the raids.”
Among the items recovered were AK-47 rifles, locally fabricated firearms, live ammunition, and communication devices suspected to have been used in coordinating criminal activities. The arrested suspects are currently assisting police investigations and will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the efforts of the tactical units and reiterated the force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian communities.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains determined to sustain the momentum in tackling violent crimes, especially kidnapping, armed robbery, and terrorism. These operations underscore our resolve to restore peace and security across all geopolitical zones,” the IGP stated.
The latest development comes amid ongoing reforms in the security sector and growing demands by Nigerians for proactive policing and enhanced community safety.
