June 16, 2025 | Ilam, Iran –
Iran’s military has announced that its air defense systems successfully shot down a drone allegedly belonging to the Israeli military in Ilam Province, located in western Iran near the Iraqi border.
According to state-affiliated media, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was identified as an “Israeli occupation drone” conducting what officials described as “unauthorized reconnaissance” over Iranian territory. The drone was intercepted and destroyed early Monday morning.
Military sources said the incident is being treated as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, following days of intensified hostilities in the region. No casualties or damage on the ground were reported.
As of now, the Israeli government has not officially responded to the claim. The development adds to growing fears of wider escalation in the Middle East, with both nations trading missile strikes and verbal threats in recent days.
Security analysts warn that drone incursions could further destabilize the already fragile regional situation. The United Nations has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
