Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens across all political divides to put the nation’s progress above partisan interests, stressing that true development can only be achieved through collective effort and unity of purpose.
Mrs. Tinubu made the passionate appeal during a national stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja on Monday, where she addressed issues ranging from women’s empowerment to national cohesion and youth development.
According to the First Lady, “Irrespective of party affiliation, we have to grow this nation. We can no longer afford to be divided when the future of our children and grandchildren is at stake.” She urged Nigerians to channel their energies toward building a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous country, especially as the nation navigates complex economic and security challenges.
Mrs. Tinubu, a former senator and long-time advocate for family values and education, reiterated that her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) remains committed to complementing federal efforts through grassroots projects and support for vulnerable groups. She noted that true patriotism is not found in slogans, but in deliberate actions that uplift communities and promote peace.
“We must empower one another. We must speak one language, the language of national progress,” she added, calling on political leaders, civil society, religious groups, and youth organizations to collaborate beyond party lines in the interest of Nigeria.
Her remarks come at a time when public discourse continues to be polarized along political and ethnic lines, threatening national cohesion. Analysts have described her message as timely and unifying, especially with increasing calls for inclusive governance and a people-centered approach to policymaking.
As the First Lady continues her national outreach programs, she has urged Nigerians to remember that no meaningful change can happen without shared responsibility, a message that has resonated with many across the country.
In the words of Mrs. Tinubu: “Our unity is our strength. And our commitment to Nigeria must transcend politics.”
