JAMB Insists No UTME Candidate Will Sit Exams Outside Their State of Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by mandating that candidates sit for their exams within the state where they registered. This decision is part of the Board’s broader effort to streamline operations, enhance security, and curb examination malpractice.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized this policy during a recent stakeholder briefing, noting that it aligns with measures to maintain orderliness and transparency in the examination process. He explained that allowing candidates to write exams outside their state of registration had previously led to logistical challenges and increased opportunities for fraud.

By enforcing this rule, JAMB aims to ensure that candidates can be properly monitored and that resources are efficiently utilized. This policy comes as JAMB prepares for the main UTME scheduled from April 25 to May 5, 2025, following the conclusion of registration on March 8, which saw over two million candidates sign up for the examination.

The Board has introduced innovative measures this year, including enhanced biometric verification and stricter monitoring protocols at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers nationwide.Candidates have been advised to familiarize themselves with their designated centers and adhere strictly to examination rules.

JAMB has also warned against any attempt to manipulate the process, as several arrests have already been made for fraudulent activities during registration. The decision to restrict candidates to their state of registration underscores JAMB’s commitment to fairness and accountability in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process. As preparations for the exams continue, stakeholders are optimistic that these measures will contribute to a seamless and credible UTME experience.
