JAMB to Verify Over 500 Suspected Underage Admission Cases in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri

Abuja, Nigeria — August 13, 2025 | The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced it will screen more than 500 candidates suspected of securing admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions despite being under the minimum age requirement.

The screening exercise will take place simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri, focusing on verifying the authenticity of documents submitted by the affected candidates and ensuring compliance with age regulations.

According to JAMB, the measure is aimed at enforcing admission policies, safeguarding academic standards, and curbing the growing trend of underage enrolment into higher institutions. The board warned that any admission found to have breached the stipulated age policy could be withdrawn.

Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure their wards meet the minimum age requirement before registering for future Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
