Jigawa Approves ₦396 Million for Federal Fertilizer Allocation

Dutse, Jigawa | September 24, 2025

The Jigawa State Government has approved the sum of ₦396 million for the purchase of fertilizer allocated to the state under the Federal Government’s special intervention programme.
The allocation covers 20 trucks of NPK fertilizer amounting to 12,000 bags, each to be distributed at a subsidised rate of ₦33,000 per bag.

The measure is aimed at cushioning the impact of rising fertilizer costs and supporting farmers to boost food production across the state.

State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Sagir Musa, disclosed the approval on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Dutse on the outcome of the weekly State Executive Council meeting.

According to him, the intervention forms part of the state’s broader agricultural support initiative for the 2025/2026 dry season, designed to enhance productivity and strengthen food security.

The commissioner added that arrangements were being put in place to ensure equitable distribution of the commodity to farmers, particularly smallholders, who are most affected by high input costs.
