Jigawa Varsity Secures ₦1 Billion TETFund Grant for Innovation Hub Development

Dutse, August 2, 2025

The Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has secured a ₦1 billion intervention grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the establishment of a state-of-the-art innovation hub and technology park.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, confirmed the development while addressing staff and students during a campus briefing. He revealed that the fund would be deployed to foster technological innovation, research, and entrepreneurship among students and faculty members.

According to him, the proposed innovation hub would be equipped with modern laboratories, co-working spaces, digital fabrication tools, and facilities to support startups, particularly those focused on agritech, health tech, renewable energy, and ICT solutions.

“This funding marks a turning point in our academic and research capacity. It will position FUD as a driver of technological development and youth empowerment not only in the North-West but across the country,” Professor Mohammed stated.

The TETFund-backed project aligns with the federal government’s push to promote knowledge-based economies through tertiary institutions. It also supports Nigeria’s broader goals under its National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), aimed at fostering innovation and job creation through academia-industry collaboration.

Stakeholders across Jigawa State have welcomed the announcement, noting that the innovation park will not only benefit students but also provide technical support and mentorship for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in the region.

Construction of the innovation hub is expected to commence in the last quarter of 2025, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.
