Abuja, July 2, 2025 — Political activist and rights advocate, Deji Adeyanju, has called on Sahara Reporters publisher and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, to consider joining the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging him to prioritize political impact over public perception.
Adeyanju made the call in a public message shared on Tuesday via social media, addressing Sowore directly and encouraging him not to be swayed by criticism from those who will never be satisfied regardless of his choices.
“Dear Egbon Omoyele Sowore, forget about what people will say. You will be criticized whether you act or not,” Adeyanju said. “Politics is a game of numbers. You need structure, alliances, and reach to change this country. People may troll you today, but will later benefit from the sacrifices you make.”
The activist emphasized that aligning with a broader coalition of opposition figures would increase the chances of creating meaningful change, noting that ideological rigidity has often fragmented well-intentioned movements in the past.
Adeyanju argued that in Nigeria’s current political climate, uniting diverse voices under a common goal could prove far more effective than running parallel struggles. He added that Sowore’s credibility, courage, and consistent activism would be a valuable asset to any serious political movement seeking to challenge the status quo.
His remarks come amid ongoing talks among several opposition leaders about forming a united political front to confront the ruling party in the next general election cycle. Though Sowore has historically been vocal against coalitions lacking clear ideological direction, Adeyanju’s appeal appears aimed at bridging that gap through collaboration built on shared reformist objectives.
While Sowore has yet to issue a formal response, Adeyanju’s statement has sparked conversations online about the future of opposition politics in Nigeria and the potential strength of a unified third force.
