Kachikwu Alleges State Chairmen Being Bribed with N20 Million to Resign

Abuja | July 17, 2025

Presidential candidate and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has raised alarm over alleged financial inducement targeted at some state chairmen of political parties to force their resignation.

Kachikwu claimed that certain political figures, whose identities he did not disclose, are offering as much as ₦20 million to party chairmen across various states in exchange for their withdrawal from office. According to him, this underhanded tactic is part of a wider scheme to destabilize opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, Kachikwu stated, “We have credible intelligence that some of our state chairmen are being offered ₦20 million to vacate their positions. This is a desperate attempt to weaken our party structure and intimidate our members.”

He described the development as a dangerous threat to Nigeria’s democratic process and a clear sign of political desperation. Kachikwu warned that such moves, if left unchecked, could erode public confidence in the country’s political system.

The ADC chairman called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to investigate the allegations and bring perpetrators to justice. He also urged political actors to play fair and respect the integrity of democratic institutions.

As the build-up to the 2027 election intensifies, Kachikwu’s allegations have stirred concerns among political observers, raising questions about the fairness of the electoral process and the need for electoral reforms to protect internal party democracy.
