Kaduna State Launches Free Bus Rides for Civil Servants and Students with Valid ID Cards –

July 7, 2025

In a move aimed at cushioning the impact of rising transport costs, the Kaduna State Government has officially rolled out a free transportation scheme for civil servants and students across the state. Beginning today, July 7, eligible individuals with valid identification cards can board designated state-run buses at no cost.

Announcing the development, the Kaduna State Ministry of Transportation stated that the initiative is part of Governor Uba Sani’s broader social intervention programme to ease the economic burden on citizens, especially workers and students.

According to the ministry, the free rides apply to all buses under the Kaduna State Transport Authority (KSTA) operating on intra-city and selected inter-city routes. Commuters are required to present valid government-issued ID cards (for civil servants) or school IDs (for students) to access the service.

The government noted that the gesture would not only provide financial relief but also encourage punctuality and improve productivity among workers and academic performance among students.

Speaking on the launch, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hajiya Aisha Umar, described the programme as “a bold step toward inclusive governance,” adding that the government is determined to expand the initiative as more buses are deployed.

Many beneficiaries have lauded the programme, expressing gratitude for the government’s effort in supporting the welfare of the people amidst economic challenges.

Security agencies and transport marshals have been stationed at major terminals to ensure orderliness and smooth implementation of the scheme.
