The Kaduna State Government has entered into a landmark agreement with the African Industries Group (AIG), signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) valued at $120 million for the establishment of a world-class greenhouse farming project in Gujeni, Kagarko Local Government Area of the state.
This ambitious initiative is designed to transform Kaduna into a hub for modern, technology-driven agriculture while significantly boosting food production, creating thousands of jobs, and enhancing food security not only within the state but across Nigeria. The greenhouse facility, once completed, is expected to serve as one of the largest and most advanced agricultural projects in the country, utilizing cutting-edge irrigation, climate control, and crop management systems.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, officials from the Kaduna State Government expressed confidence that the collaboration with African Industries Group will not only attract more foreign direct investment into the state but also position Kaduna as a leader in sustainable and commercial agriculture. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment for investors through land access, policy support, and infrastructure development.
The African Industries Group, a well-established conglomerate with interests across manufacturing, power, and agriculture, also shared its vision for the project. According to the Group, the Gujeni greenhouse venture aligns with its strategy to support agricultural transformation in Africa by leveraging innovation and large-scale investment to tackle food scarcity and stimulate economic growth.
The $120 million investment will span across various phases, including construction of greenhouses, installation of automated systems, training of local farmers, and integration of a value chain system to support post-harvest handling, storage, and distribution.
Residents of Gujeni and surrounding communities are expected to benefit directly from the project through employment opportunities, skills acquisition, and the stimulation of small-scale agri-businesses that will naturally spring up around the greenhouse ecosystem.
The Kaduna State Government emphasized that this MoU is a clear demonstration of its readiness to harness public-private partnerships for economic development and youth empowerment. With agriculture identified as a strategic pillar in the state’s long-term development agenda, projects like this are set to play a key role in reshaping the region’s economy and improving livelihoods.
