Kano State Shuts Down Eight Entertainment Centres for Violating Regulations

Kano State authorities have ordered the closure of eight entertainment centres across the state for repeatedly breaching cultural and moral guidelines. The Kano State Film and Video Censorship Board took the decision after several warnings were ignored by the operators.

According to Abba El-Mustapha, Executive Secretary of the Board, the centres engaged in activities deemed inappropriate, including late-night shows and content that violated public decency. The affected venues include Hamdala Entertainment in Ungoggo, Lady J Entertainment, Dan Hausa Entertainment, and others mainly located in Sanya Olu and surrounding areas.

El-Mustapha warned that any attempts to reopen these centres under different names would result in legal action. He emphasized that while the board supports creative expression, all activities must comply with Kano’s cultural and legal standards.

This move follows recent suspensions of certain Hausa-language drama series for failing to obtain proper clearance and for content deemed indecent. The board assured stakeholders of ongoing dialogue and training to promote responsible entertainment within the state.

The closure signals Kano State’s firm commitment to preserving its cultural values while regulating the entertainment sector.
