Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has blamed the persistent wave of insecurity in the state on the activities of local informants and existing gaps in the nation’s security architecture.
Speaking on Saturday, July 12, 2025, during a condolence visit to the families of the three police officers killed in a recent bandit attack in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, the governor decried the growing collaboration between criminal elements and some residents who provide them with intelligence.
“The unfortunate incident that led to the killing of our gallant officers is a direct consequence of betrayal from within. Informants living among us are feeding these bandits with critical information,” Governor Idris said.
He expressed concern over the porous nature of some security operations, calling for a holistic review and improved coordination among agencies to effectively confront banditry, kidnapping, and related crimes plaguing Kebbi and other parts of the northwest.
Governor Idris also urged traditional rulers and community leaders to support the government’s efforts by fishing out suspicious persons within their domains and promoting timely information sharing with security operatives.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the security forces with logistics, intelligence support, and welfare incentives. “We will not relent until peace is fully restored to every corner of Kebbi,” he declared.
The governor’s statement comes amid growing public anxiety over increasing attacks on security personnel and rural communities across the region.
