Kwankwaso Calls for Calm Amid Escalating Violence in Plateau State

Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, has urged for calm in Plateau State, following a surge in violent incidents that have claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction. In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Kwankwaso expressed his deep sorrow over the recent tragic attack on the Zike community, located in Kimakpa, Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area. The attack left 51 people dead and several properties destroyed, intensifying fears about the growing insecurity in the region.

Plateau State, which has long struggled with persistent security challenges, has witnessed a sharp increase in violent incidents over the past few months. The Zike community assault, which follows a series of brutal attacks on five other communities within a span of one week, has brought the state’s security situation to a boiling point. With more than fifty people killed in these attacks, the escalation of violence has raised serious concerns among residents and observers alike about the government’s capacity to restore peace and security.

Kwankwaso, in his statement, expressed his condolences to the people and government of Plateau State, condemning the killings and destruction. He emphasized that the state should not be allowed to descend into another cycle of violence, particularly after enjoying a period of relative peace in recent years. He further urged that the federal government must fulfill its constitutional duty to safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians across the country.

The former governor called on the authorities to ensure that justice is served by arresting and prosecuting those responsible for these heinous crimes. He also appealed to all citizens of Plateau State to embrace peace and work collectively to prevent further bloodshed. The devastating impact of the violence has already deterred investors, tourists, and potential visitors to the region, worsening the state’s already fragile socio-economic situation.

Kwankwaso’s statement concluded with a strong plea for the federal government to take decisive action to address the growing insecurity. “The message of peace must resonate with all residents, not just in Plateau but across the nation,” he urged, calling for a united effort to bring lasting peace to the troubled state.

The people of Plateau State, still grappling with the aftermath of the deadly attacks, are now looking to the government to take swift and effective steps to ensure that such incidents do not become a regular occurrence.
