Labour Party Has No Anointed Candidate for Anambra Governorship Race – Abure

The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has assured all aspirants vying for the party’s ticket in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election that the primary process will be free, fair, and transparent.

Abure gave this assurance on Friday in Abuja when former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu, submitted his completed expression of interest and nomination forms at the party’s secretariat.

He emphasized that the party has no preferred candidate and that its members in Anambra will have the final say on who emerges as the LP’s flagbearer for the November 2025 governorship election.

“I want you to take it to the bank that it is the people of Anambra, particularly Labour Party members, who will determine who flies the party’s ticket,” Abure stated.

“I urge you to return to Anambra and connect with the people, especially party members who will be responsible for electing the candidate. There will be no godfatherism, no favoritism, and no anointed aspirant. I assure you that the process will be free, fair, and credible.”

Abure further praised Moghalu’s credentials, describing him as a credible individual with the potential to bring positive change to Anambra State.

“When we find men of goodwill, we open our arms to receive them. That is why we welcomed you when you joined the LP. Given your trajectory, we believe that if you secure the ticket, you will serve the people of Anambra well,” he added.

In his remarks, Moghalu expressed gratitude to the LP leadership for providing a fair platform for all aspirants. He reaffirmed his commitment to securing the party’s ticket and ultimately winning the governorship election.

“Mr. Chairman, I assure you that I will not let you down. I am entering this race with full determination to win, and by the grace of God, we shall be victorious,” he said.

Acknowledging the role of divine providence in leadership, Moghalu added, “Power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He pleases. What we have done is to make ourselves available and allow God to decide. If given the opportunity to fly the party’s flag, we will work to build a state we can all be proud of.”

The LP governorship primary election is scheduled for April 5, ahead of the November poll, where the party aims to unseat the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo.
