Labour Party Moves to Suspend and Expel Peter Obi, Says National Publicity Secretary Arabambi

Dated July 8, 2025

The Labour Party has announced its intention to suspend and possibly expel the 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, from the party. This was disclosed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, during a press briefing on Monday, July 8, 2025.

Arabambi revealed that a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting will soon be convened where the suspension and expulsion of the former Anambra State Governor will be formally deliberated and effected. He accused Obi of consistently disregarding party leadership and working at cross-purposes with the party’s objectives.

“We are conveying a NEC meeting where he (Peter Obi) will be suspended. Obi will be expelled from our party. Enough of his sabotage and disregard for party leadership,” Arabambi stated emphatically.

The development is the latest in a string of internal crises that have plagued the Labour Party since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, with factions battling for control and legitimacy. Arabambi insisted that the party must enforce discipline, regardless of stature or past affiliations.

Political observers believe the move could significantly reshape the party’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections. However, there has been no official response yet from Peter Obi or his close allies concerning the threat of expulsion.

As tensions escalate, party loyalists and political analysts alike await the outcome of the proposed NEC meeting with bated breath.
