Lagos Blue Line Records 5 Million Passenger Trips in Two Years, Sanwo-Olu Announces Fare Slash

September 3, 2025 – The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line has achieved a major milestone, clocking more than 5 million passenger trips in just two years of operation.

Commissioned to improve urban mobility in Africa’s largest city, the Blue Line has significantly eased transport costs and cut travel times for residents. With trains now running every 10 minutes and completing over 90 trips daily, the service has become a vital boost to productivity and business efficiency across Lagos.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while marking the second anniversary of the project, described the feat as a testament to his administration’s investment in sustainable urban transportation. He also announced a 50 percent fare reduction on Thursday, September 4, 2025, to celebrate the milestone with commuters.

The Blue Line, a flagship component of the state’s integrated transport plan, is seen as a model for tackling congestion and providing safe, reliable alternatives to road travel. Its performance has further positioned Lagos as a pacesetter in modern rail infrastructure within sub-Saharan Africa.
