Lagos Council Vice Chairmen Elect New Executives, Commit to Grassroots Development

Lagos, August 2, 2025

Vice Chairmen of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State have elected a new set of executives to lead their forum, pledging renewed commitment to grassroots governance, accountability, and community-driven development.

The election, held in Lagos on Friday, brought together vice chairpersons from across the state, who unanimously agreed on the need for stronger collaboration and shared vision among local councils to deepen the impact of governance at the ward and community levels.

Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the newly elected Chairperson of the Forum of Lagos Vice Chairmen expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the new leadership and emphasized their resolve to build synergy with council chairmen, state authorities, and relevant stakeholders to accelerate rural development.

“We will prioritize capacity building, transparent leadership, and inclusive programmes that touch the lives of ordinary citizens,” the Chairperson said. “Our focus is to amplify the voices at the grassroots and ensure every community benefits from meaningful governance.”

The forum also resolved to enhance inter-council collaboration, promote accountability in service delivery, and pursue strategic partnerships that address local needs, including health care, youth empowerment, environmental sanitation, and infrastructural renewal.

The event was attended by top political leaders, local government stakeholders, and civil society representatives, who commended the move as a progressive step toward strengthening sub-national governance structures and aligning local efforts with the broader Lagos State development agenda.
