The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered the strategic deployment of Area Commanders and senior officers across the state to fortify security at collation centres as the 2025 local government elections continue.
This directive comes amid ongoing voting and vote-counting activities across Lagos, as residents head to the polls to elect chairpersons and councillors into the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Commissioner of Police stressed the importance of protecting the collation process to preserve the credibility and integrity of the elections. He also warned that any form of interference, violence, or disruption at collation centres would be met with swift legal action.
According to the statement, Fayoade’s directive also includes increased visibility patrols around sensitive areas, tactical backup for electoral officers, and immediate response teams to quell any security threats that may arise.
“The Command is fully committed to ensuring the safety of voters, electoral officials, and observers. All Area Commanders, DPOs, and tactical commanders are to remain at their posts and work in synergy with other sister agencies,” the CP stated.
He further urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to remain law-abiding and allow the collation process to proceed without interference.
The Lagos State Police Command has also set up dedicated communication lines for reporting incidents or seeking assistance during the election period.
