Lagos Government Announces Night-Time Rehabilitation Works on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, September 15–21

The Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to carry out overnight maintenance works on the ever-busy Ozumba Mbadiwe Road corridor, beginning from Sunday, September 15 through Saturday, September 21, 2025.

The road, which serves as a major gateway connecting Victoria Island to Lekki and other commercial hubs, will undergo essential resurfacing and repair works aimed at enhancing traffic flow and prolonging the lifespan of the critical infrastructure.

According to a statement released by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the rehabilitation exercise will be executed during nighttime hours only, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, in a bid to minimize disruption to daytime traffic and commercial activities along the axis. The government emphasized that traffic diversion plans have already been put in place to ensure minimal inconvenience for road users during the specified period.

The repair work, which forms part of the state’s ongoing commitment to maintaining urban infrastructure, is expected to cover sections of the road showing visible signs of wear and tear, including potholes, uneven surfaces, and drainage-related damage caused by recent rains. Authorities have also assured the public that the project will be completed within schedule, weather permitting.

Motorists plying the Victoria Island-Lekki corridor are advised to cooperate with traffic officers and observe all road signs and diversions as stipulated during the night operations. Alternative routes will be made accessible and clearly marked to facilitate smoother vehicular movement throughout the repair period.

The state government reiterated that maintaining the integrity of major roads remains a key priority under the current administration’s THEMES+ development agenda, which focuses on traffic management, infrastructure renewal, and urban resilience.

Residents and business owners in the affected area are encouraged to plan accordingly, especially during the night hours, while the maintenance activities are ongoing. The Lagos State Government has also called for public understanding and support, noting that temporary inconveniences are necessary for the long-term improvement of road infrastructure across the state.

As of the time of this report, all necessary materials and logistics have reportedly been mobilized, with contractors and relevant agencies ready to commence operations as scheduled.
