Lagos Government Concludes Vocational Empowerment Programme in Agbowa-Ikosi

August 3, 2025 — The Lagos State Government has successfully concluded its Life Skill Economic Empowerment Programme (LEEP) in Agbowa-Ikosi, providing vocational training and startup support to approximately 250 women and young people over a four-week period.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), culminated in a closing ceremony where participants exhibited the practical skills they had acquired in areas such as paint production, tie and dye, hairdressing, gele styling, catering, make-up artistry, pomade and insecticide production, and household product manufacturing.

Following the training, each participant received startup kits and materials tailored to their area of expertise, enabling them to establish micro-enterprises and pursue self-reliant livelihoods.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada, described the programme as a strategic tool for community empowerment, particularly targeting women and youth in underserved areas. She reaffirmed WAPA’s commitment to promoting economic inclusion and reducing poverty through hands-on skill acquisition and sustainable business support.

The Agbowa-Ikosi LEEP cohort represents another milestone in the state’s efforts to drive grassroots development. With structured training and post-programme follow-up, the beneficiaries are now better positioned to contribute to local economic growth and achieve financial independence in line with Lagos State’s inclusive development goals.
