Lagos Government Eyes AI Technology to Transform Driver Training Through Strategic Partnership

In a move aimed at redefining driver education and improving road safety, the Lagos State Government is considering the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered solutions to modernize training programmes at the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI). The initiative, which is being proposed in collaboration with the AI Driving Metaverse Group (AIDMG), holds the promise of revolutionizing how drivers are assessed, trained, and certified in the state.

The proposal was unveiled during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation by a delegation from AIDMG, led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Daniel Avdagic, and Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Heimo Hirn. The AIDMG team presented an advanced concept focused on deploying a sophisticated Driving Metaverse Simulator. This AI-driven technology is designed to evaluate drivers using real-time data on behaviour, performance, and psychological traits to generate detailed analytical reports for each trainee.

According to the proponents, the core aim is to enable simulator-based, personalized training sessions that target each driver’s specific weaknesses, ultimately leading to improved driving standards and reduced accident rates across Lagos roads. The smart system will utilize key performance indicators to assess drivers objectively and recommend targeted interventions that go beyond traditional classroom training.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who received the AIDMG delegation, lauded the initiative as a transformative step for driver education in Nigeria’s most populous state. He noted that such a technology-backed programme aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader vision of deploying innovation to solve urban challenges, especially in transportation.

Osiyemi described the proposed simulator project as a “potential game changer” and emphasized the importance of continuous driver education as a vital tool for improving traffic behaviour and public safety. He further advocated for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to implement the initiative, which would allow for scalability and sustainability while leveraging private sector expertise.

The meeting also had in attendance the General Manager of LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, along with her management team, senior officials from the Ministry of Transportation, and Mr. Franklyn Olushola Frantos, Chief Executive Officer of Toplorgical, a cybersecurity firm involved in technology support for the project.

With the rising number of road users and the increasing complexity of traffic in Lagos, this proposed collaboration is expected to enhance the efficiency of the state’s driver training infrastructure. It forms part of the government’s broader strategy to integrate smart technologies into traffic management and to raise the standard of public and private transport services in line with international best practices.
