Lagos Government Makes Reflective Jackets Compulsory for Courier Riders on Night Operations

Lagos, Nigeria | September 22, 2025

The Lagos State Government has directed all courier and logistics companies operating within the state to ensure that their riders wear reflective jackets when making deliveries at night.

The directive, announced on Sunday by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, is aimed at improving road safety, reducing accidents, and enhancing the visibility of riders during late-hour operations.

According to the ministry, the move follows reports of rising road crashes involving dispatch riders, particularly during evening and night deliveries. Authorities explained that the jackets will make riders more visible to motorists and help protect both the riders and other road users.

“The use of reflective jackets is now compulsory for all courier riders operating in Lagos during night-time deliveries. This measure is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote safety and order on our roads,” the statement read.

The government further warned that non-compliance with the directive would attract penalties, including the impoundment of motorcycles and sanctions against defaulting courier companies.

While acknowledging the vital role of logistics services in urban commerce, the ministry appealed to operators to prioritise safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

Industry players and safety advocates have welcomed the decision, noting that reflective gear is a globally recognised standard for protecting riders and reducing nighttime accidents.
