Lagos Government Sensitises Ikorodu Housing Estate Residents on Sustainable Living

Ikorodu, Lagos – In a bid to promote sustainable urban living and environmental consciousness, the Lagos State Ministry of Housing has held a stakeholders’ meeting and public enlightenment session with residents of government-owned housing estates in the Ikorodu Division.

The sensitisation programme, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, represented by the Director of Estate Department, ESV. (Mrs.) Olukemi Fosudo, brought together residents, government officials, and agency representatives to discuss key strategies for enhancing estate well-being and quality of life.

Addressing participants, ESV. Fosudo highlighted the primary objectives of the initiative, which include promoting sustainable living practices, encouraging energy efficiency, boosting environmental awareness, and fostering stronger estate-level engagement among residents.

She noted that the programme also aims to educate residents on proper waste management, water conservation, and sanitation measures as part of a broader plan to improve public health and environmental standards across government-owned estates.

“This initiative demonstrates the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to creating livable, healthy communities and ensuring that our housing policies support long-term sustainability,” Fosudo said.

The Permanent Secretary, in his message delivered through the representative, called on residents to embrace the initiative with collective responsibility and work closely with the Ministry to build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient housing environment.

The engagement underscores the Lagos State Government’s continued efforts to align housing development with global sustainability standards, while ensuring that citizens are fully informed and active participants in shaping the future of their communities.
