The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of Purple Mall in Lekki after a troubling incident involving an individual, identified as Fatai, occurred in the mall’s parking area.
The shutdown, confirmed by state officials, follows preliminary investigations which raised concerns about lapses in safety and crowd control at the commercial facility. The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, reportedly involved a breakdown in mall security protocol and has prompted swift government action to protect the public and reinforce regulatory compliance.
Officials from the Lagos State Safety Commission and other relevant agencies have been deployed to the premises to conduct a comprehensive safety audit and ascertain the level of negligence, while also enforcing immediate compliance with state regulations.
In a statement issued by the state authorities, the government emphasized that the wellbeing and safety of residents and visitors remain paramount, and that commercial centres must maintain the highest safety standards at all times. Business owners across Lagos were also urged to proactively address safety concerns and maintain proper management of their facilities.
