Lagos Health District IV Engages Stakeholders Across 10 LGs, LCDAs to Improve Primary Healthcare Services

Lagos, Nigeria – June 2025 — In a renewed push to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (PHCB), through Health District IV, has engaged critical stakeholders across ten Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within its jurisdiction.

The stakeholder engagement sessions, held across various locations, brought together council health officers, traditional leaders, ward health committee members, healthcare workers, and representatives of civil society organizations to foster collaboration and drive improvements in the quality of services provided at Primary Health Centres (PHCs).

Speaking at one of the sessions, the District IV Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr. [Insert Name], emphasized the importance of inclusive community participation in achieving efficient and responsive primary healthcare.

“We are working to ensure that PHCs in all ten LGAs and LCDAs under District IV provide accessible, affordable, and people-centered care. To do this, we must collaborate with local leaders and stakeholders who understand the unique health challenges in their communities,” she said.

Key issues discussed included staff shortages, availability of essential drugs, maintenance of PHC infrastructure, and effective data collection for health planning. The district also outlined strategies for improving maternal and child health, routine immunization, disease surveillance, and public health education.

Participants commended the Lagos State Government for the initiative, describing it as a step in the right direction toward universal health coverage. They also urged sustained support, continuous training for healthcare providers, and timely resource allocation to PHCs.

District IV covers areas including Lagos Mainland, Surulere, Yaba, Mushin, and other adjacent councils. The engagement aligns with the state’s broader vision to transform primary healthcare into the foundation of its health system, as captured in the THEMES Plus development agenda.
