The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and promote entrepreneurship across the state.
The MoU was signed on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Sterling Towers in Lagos, with the aim of fostering sustainable economic growth by empowering young entrepreneurs and addressing the challenges facing startups and SMEs. The agreement is expected to open up new opportunities for business development, capacity building, and access to funding and mentorship.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the 2025 President of JCI Nigeria, Oluwatoyin Atanda, said the collaboration marks a strategic step toward enhancing economic inclusion and reducing youth unemployment through enterprise development. She noted that the partnership will also provide a platform for innovative entrepreneurs to access training, resources, and networks that can help scale their businesses.
The Lagos State Government, which was represented by officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives, reaffirmed its commitment to building a vibrant business environment and empowering young Nigerians. The government said the partnership aligns with its broader agenda of job creation and poverty alleviation through entrepreneurship and enterprise support.
As part of the agreement, the parties will implement initiatives such as business workshops, financial support schemes, and market access programs tailored to meet the specific needs of SMEs in the state. The partnership also includes plans for mentorship programs that will connect new business owners with experienced professionals for guidance.
The collaboration between Lagos State and JCI Nigeria is seen as a model for other states in the country, showcasing how strategic partnerships between government and civic organizations can drive economic transformation and youth empowerment.
The initiative is expected to contribute to Lagos State’s long-term vision of becoming a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic development.
