Lagos Joins Global Community to Celebrate World Bicycle Day

The Lagos State Government today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Bicycle Day, highlighting the bicycle as a clean, affordable, and healthy mode of transportation.

The event, which featured a symbolic ride through key parts of the city, drew participation from cycling enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and government officials. It aimed to promote sustainable mobility, reduce carbon emissions, and encourage healthy living among residents.

Speaking at the event, a representative of the Ministry of Transportation noted that the bicycle remains a vital tool in the state’s broader strategy for tackling climate change and improving urban mobility.

“The Lagos State Government is committed to creating a more bike-friendly city by investing in dedicated cycling lanes, awareness campaigns, and safety infrastructure,” the official stated.

World Bicycle Day, celebrated every June 3, was established by the United Nations to recognize the versatility, reliability, and environmental benefits of the bicycle.
