In a move to enhance Nigeria’s healthcare sector and reduce dependence on imports, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned the state’s first medical syringe manufacturing facility, O-Care Disposable Syringes.
The factory, owned by Transgreen Nigeria Limited, is located at Odofin Park Estate, Ijesha, Apapa-Oshodi, Lagos. With a daily production capacity of 750,000 syringes, it is set to strengthen the country’s healthcare supply chain and improve access to essential medical products.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized the state government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that supports industrialization and economic growth.
“Our administration remains dedicated to fostering an enabling environment for businesses like Transgreen Nigeria Limited to thrive. Through strategic investments in infrastructure, power supply, and policy reforms, we will continue to support initiatives that drive industrialization and strengthen our healthcare system,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor underscored the importance of local manufacturing in reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported medical supplies, noting that initiatives like this align with the state’s broader economic agenda.
Managing Director of Transgreen Nigeria Ltd., Cyprian Orakpo, expressed gratitude for the government’s support and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its operations and diversifying its range of medical products.
“Our goal is to bridge the gap in medical supplies by ensuring that healthcare facilities across Nigeria have access to high-quality, locally produced syringes. This facility is just the beginning, and we intend to scale up production to meet growing demand,” Orakpo said.
The new factory is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure by ensuring a steady supply of syringes for hospitals and clinics. Additionally, it will contribute to job creation and economic development by providing employment opportunities for skilled workers in the region.
Industry stakeholders present at the event lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards self-sufficiency in medical production. They emphasized that increased local manufacturing would not only boost the economy but also enhance healthcare delivery by making essential medical supplies more accessible and affordable.
With this new development, Lagos State continues to position itself as a hub for industrial growth and innovation, setting a precedent for other states to follow in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system through local production.
