Lagos Partners Global Stakeholders to Strengthen Food Security, Boost Agripreneurship

In a strategic move to bolster food security and stimulate agricultural entrepreneurship, the Lagos State Government has launched a global alliance with international partners, development agencies, and private stakeholders. The initiative aims to position Lagos as a leading hub for innovative agribusiness and sustainable food systems in West Africa.

The announcement came during the sixth edition of the Lagos Agrinnovation Hangout, hosted by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems. The event brought together key players in the agriculture value chain, including representatives from the Danish Embassy, development partners, agro-tech firms, and young agripreneurs, to foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, emphasized the urgency of building a resilient agricultural ecosystem amid global food crises and climate change pressures. She highlighted that the partnership is expected to drive inclusive agribusiness growth, scale up agro-technological innovation, and empower young farmers across the state.

“Lagos is redefining the future of agriculture through partnerships, innovation, and targeted investment in our food systems,” Olusanya said. “This alliance will not only promote food security but also open up sustainable income opportunities for thousands of agripreneurs.”

In addition to international cooperation, Lagos is also partnering with global climate network C40 Cities to promote organic farming methods, including the use of compost manure, to enhance crop yield and sustainability. These efforts are part of the broader agricultural transformation agenda under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ policy, which prioritizes economic development, health, and environmental sustainability.

The Lagos Agrinnovation Hangout serves as a platform to connect agribusiness enthusiasts, investors, and policy makers, and to drive conversations around scalable agricultural solutions. Participants at the event commended the Lagos State Government for its visionary leadership in harnessing agriculture as a tool for economic empowerment and food sufficiency.

The state government reiterated its commitment to providing the enabling environment, infrastructure, and policy support needed to drive agricultural innovation and ensure long-term food stability for the over 20 million residents of Lagos.
