Lagos Police Nab Most Wanted Notorious Gang Leader, Olori Eso

Lagos, June 21, 2025 – The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, widely known by the alias “Olori Eso,” who has been described as one of the most dangerous and elusive hired killers operating in the state in recent years.

Akinwande, whose reign of terror spanned several high-profile violent crimes across Lagos and its environs, was captured during a coordinated intelligence-led operation by officers of the Command’s Special Tactical Squad. According to police authorities, the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates responsible for cult clashes, assassinations, and coordinated attacks in several communities.

In a statement confirming the arrest, the police said Akinwande had been on their most-wanted list for years and was linked to numerous gang-related murders and violent activities that left a trail of fear in areas such as Ikorodu, Mushin, and Lagos Island. His arrest, they added, followed weeks of surveillance and strategic deployment of undercover operatives.

“The suspect is responsible for a catalogue of violent crimes, including contract killings, cult-related executions, and armed gang operations,” the police said. “His capture is a major blow to organised criminal activities in the state.”

The police also revealed that preliminary investigations are ongoing, and further arrests are expected as Akinwande is believed to be deeply connected to an underground network of violent enforcers and crime sponsors.

Residents in affected communities have welcomed the news of his arrest, expressing relief and calling on security agencies to ensure that justice is served. They also urged the police to intensify efforts to locate and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

The Lagos State Police Command assured the public of its continued resolve to track and dismantle criminal elements threatening the peace and safety of residents. Akinwande is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
