The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued two individuals abducted on Thursday night from the Ijede Creekside area in Ikorodu, following a coordinated operation involving tactical teams and local security outfits.
According to a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police responded swiftly to a distress call received at around 10:00 pm on the day of the incident. The report had indicated gunshots and a suspected attack in the Ijede Creekside settlement.
Acting on the intelligence, more than 15 officers comprising tactical squads, detectives, conventional police operatives, local vigilantes, hunters, and residents were mobilised to the scene. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that two residents had been forcefully taken from their homes by unidentified armed assailants who escaped through the surrounding creek and forest terrain.
Following the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, a comprehensive rescue mission was initiated. Security personnel were strategically deployed to block all possible escape routes in and around the creek and forest.
The intense search effort culminated in the safe rescue of the abducted individuals by 10:00 pm on Sunday. The victims, found unharmed, have since been reunited with their families.
CSP Hundeyin noted that the collaborative efforts of local vigilantes, hunters, and concerned residents were instrumental in the operation’s success, especially considering the challenges of the difficult terrain. He added that the search for the kidnappers is still ongoing, with law enforcement and local security personnel continuing to comb the creek and forest to apprehend those responsible.
Commending the bravery and swift response of all involved, Hundeyin reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to the safety and security of all Lagos residents. He also urged members of the public, particularly those living in remote or vulnerable areas like Ijede Creek, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
