Lagos State Government Initiates Integration of Social Register with National Identification Number (NIN)

The Lagos State Government has embarked on a significant initiative to enhance the effectiveness of its social protection programs by integrating the State Single Social Register with individuals’ National Identification Numbers (NIN). This move aims to boost the accuracy and efficiency of targeting mechanisms, ensuring that support reaches the most vulnerable residents in the state.

Announced by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Olayinka Ojo, during a stakeholder forum, this integration aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to strengthen social protection systems nationwide. The initiative is designed to leverage data-driven innovation to develop a more responsive and equitable social protection system for Lagos residents.

By linking the NIN with the social register, the government seeks to assign unique identities to beneficiaries, fostering social inclusion and transparency in the distribution of government assistance. This integration will enable authorities to track the impact of interventions more effectively, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and that support reaches those who need it most.

The Lagos State Single Social Register has become a cornerstone for social intervention programs, and integrating it with NIN is expected to unlock its full potential. Stakeholders across various sectors have been urged to collaborate and reflect on collective progress to strengthen coordination and enhance the impact of social protection initiatives in Lagos State.
