The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, in a joint operation with the State Taskforce, arrested 52 suspects during a clean-up and enforcement exercise on Lagos Island on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
The operation, which started at 12:35 a.m., targeted individuals engaged in illegal street trading, pickpocketing, and other activities deemed disruptive to public order and safety. A total of 51 males and one female were arrested during the exercise. The authorities also seized several items and dismantled illegal structures in the area, contributing to the clean-up efforts.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed that the operation was part of the ongoing efforts by the state government to address environmental violations and criminal activities. He assured the public that similar enforcement actions would continue to ensure a cleaner and safer Lagos for residents and visitors.
The 52 arrested individuals are expected to be charged in court for their involvement in various offenses. The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, and to further discourage illegal activities throughout the state.
