Lagos, Nigeria | September 22, 2025

The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has officially declared open the Travelpreneur Conference and Expo 2025, describing the platform as a catalyst for innovation and growth in Nigeria’s tourism and travel industry.

The event, which commenced in Lagos on Sunday, brought together stakeholders from across the tourism value chain, including tour operators, airlines, hospitality brands, travel tech innovators, and policy makers, to deliberate on strategies for deepening Nigeria’s participation in the global tourism market.

Speaking at the opening session, Benson-Awoyinka emphasized the state government’s commitment to positioning Lagos as the country’s leading tourism hub through strategic partnerships and investment in tourism infrastructure.

“Lagos is not just a destination; it is a global brand. This conference aligns with our vision of strengthening tourism, creating jobs, and opening fresh opportunities for entrepreneurs in the travel space,” the commissioner said.

The conference, themed “Redefining Travel and Tourism through Entrepreneurship and Innovation,” will run for two days, featuring exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions. Organisers noted that the expo aims to empower startups and small businesses in the travel sector with tools, mentorship, and partnerships for scaling their operations.

Participants hailed the Lagos State Government’s support, stressing that the collaboration between government and private sector players is critical for unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s tourism industry, which contributes over 2% to the nation’s GDP.
