Lagride Aims for 70% Share of Lagos E-Hailing Market, Unveils Electric Vehicles in Ambitious Expansion Drive

LAGOS, NIGERIA September 20, 2025 — In a bold move to dominate the state’s transportation technology landscape, Lagride, the Lagos State-backed e-hailing service, has announced plans to capture 70 percent of the city’s ride-hailing market as it begins rolling out a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) across key routes.

The initiative, which aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader vision for a cleaner, smarter, and more efficient transport ecosystem, positions Lagride as a major player challenging established private operators like Uber and Bolt in Africa’s most populous city.
Officials from Lagride revealed that the introduction of electric vehicles is part of a long-term sustainability strategy aimed at reducing carbon emissions, cutting down on fuel dependency, and promoting innovation within the transport sector. The EV rollout is expected to improve operating costs for drivers while offering commuters a quieter, cleaner ride experience.

According to sources familiar with the project, the government-backed platform is already onboarding drivers onto the new EV model with support from financial partners offering accessible leasing options. The goal is to not only increase the number of rides completed daily but to also redefine what urban mobility looks like in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Lagride’s aggressive market push comes at a time when demand for reliable and affordable transportation in Lagos continues to grow. The platform is banking on its integration with local transport policies, state infrastructure, and data-backed safety features to give it a competitive edge.

The management has assured Lagosians that more electric units will be deployed in phases, targeting areas with high commuter volumes and traffic congestion. Plans are also underway to establish dedicated charging stations across the state to support the new fleet.

With an eye on capturing a significant market share and setting new standards for urban transportation in West Africa, Lagride is not just riding on wheels — it’s driving a quiet revolution.
