LASDRI, DriveMe Collaborate to Train 100 Drivers in Lagos

In a bid to strengthen road safety and professionalism among drivers in Lagos State, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has partnered with DriveMe, a tech-driven mobility training and certification firm, to train 100 drivers drawn from private and corporate institutions.

The initiative, flagged off in Lagos, is aimed at equipping drivers with critical skills in defensive driving, road etiquette, emergency handling, and modern safety standards, especially in an era of evolving traffic dynamics in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the programme, the General Manager of LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, said the partnership is in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s commitment to reducing road traffic crashes and promoting professional conduct among drivers across the state.

“This collaboration with DriveMe is strategic. As a state, we are not just concerned about the number of vehicles on the road, but the quality of drivers operating them. By enhancing the competence of drivers, we are directly investing in the safety of lives and property,” she stated.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of DriveMe, Mr. Ayodeji Adewunmi, commended LASDRI for embracing digital innovation and structured learning to transform the driving culture in Lagos. He assured that the training will include practical sessions and assessments to ensure the drivers gain hands-on experience.

Participants, drawn from logistics firms, hospitality outfits, and private security companies, are expected to undergo intensive sessions covering road signs interpretation, accident prevention strategies, vehicle maintenance basics, and customer-centric driving.

Upon completion, all trainees will receive LASDRI certification, positioning them as certified professional drivers ready to meet the demands of the state’s growing transport needs.

Observers have hailed the programme as timely, considering the increasing reliance on professional drivers in corporate logistics, security services, and executive transport, especially in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre.

The LASDRI–DriveMe initiative is expected to be expanded to accommodate more drivers and possibly institutionalise continuous development for all licensed drivers operating within Lagos State.
