LASG Participates in High-Level Meeting Ahead of 68th UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) 2025

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – June 11, 2025
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has joined other African delegates in a high-level strategic meeting ahead of the 68th edition of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Regional Commission for Africa (CAF), scheduled to hold later this year.

The pre-conference meeting, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, brought together tourism policymakers, private sector leaders, and development partners to deliberate on key priorities, funding strategies, and the advancement of sustainable and inclusive tourism in Africa.

Representing Lagos State, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, reiterated the state’s commitment to positioning Lagos as a leading tourism destination in Africa. She emphasized Lagos’ readiness to leverage its vibrant cultural heritage, creative economy, and tourism infrastructure to attract global investment and partnerships.

“This engagement sets the tone for collaborative efforts among African nations to promote eco-friendly tourism, digital innovation, and heritage preservation. Lagos is proud to contribute meaningfully to this continental agenda,” she said.

Key issues discussed during the meeting included climate-resilient tourism policies, digital transformation in tourism services, intra-African travel facilitation, and youth inclusion in the tourism value chain.

The final outcomes of the high-level session will inform resolutions to be adopted at the main CAF conference later in the year, which is expected to attract tourism ministers and stakeholders from across 54 African countries.
