LASG Reaffirms Commitment to Creative Industry at COSON Week Celebration

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s creative industry during the 2025 COSON Week-long celebration organized by the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON).

Speaking at the COSON Lecture held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Folashade Kaosarat Bada, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlighted the administration’s ongoing support for stakeholders in the creative space.

Mrs. Bada noted that the Sanwo-Olu-led government is deliberate in creating an enabling environment that fosters innovation, intellectual property protection, and artistic development.

“We are committed to investing in the necessary infrastructure, capacity-building programmes, and policy frameworks that will position Lagos as the creative capital of Africa,” she said. “Our participation in COSON Week is a testament to our belief in the economic and cultural potential of this industry.”

The week-long celebration, which features concerts, panel discussions, and public advocacy, aims to honour Nigeria’s musical heritage while spotlighting the challenges faced by creators, particularly in terms of copyright enforcement and artist welfare.

In his remarks, COSON Chairman Chief Tony Okoroji commended the Lagos State Government for its consistent support and called for continued collaboration between the public and private sectors to strengthen the nation’s creative ecosystem.

“Lagos is the heartbeat of the Nigerian entertainment industry,” he said. “We must work together to protect the rights of our creatives and build a future that rewards talent and innovation.”

The event drew attendance from musicians, producers, entertainment lawyers, policymakers, and other key players in the Nigerian music and copyright space.

COSON Week remains a prominent fixture in Nigeria’s cultural calendar, advocating for fair treatment of intellectual property owners while celebrating the country’s musical achievements
