The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has issued a stern warning to the public, urging citizens to ignore a fake notice circulating on social media and online platforms regarding the 2025 local government elections. This notice, which falsely claims to be from LASIEC, has been described as misleading and without any official standing.
In a statement released by LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd), the commission emphasized that the process for conducting local government elections in Lagos State is strictly guided by laws. The official notice of elections will be published in newspapers at the appropriate time, as stipulated by law.
LASIEC advised political parties and other stakeholders to disregard the fake publications, which have been circulating widely online. The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and adherence to legal frameworks throughout the electoral process.
Reports had emerged suggesting that LASIEC had approved July 19, 2025, as the date for the election, but these claims have been categorically denied by the commission.
