LASODA, LASCOPA Strengthen Ties on Consumer Protection for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

Lagos, Nigeria – June 11, 2025

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting inclusive consumer rights by strengthening collaboration on issues affecting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

This renewed partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, to LASCOPA’s headquarters in Ikeja. The visit was aimed at exploring areas of synergy to ensure that the rights of PWDs as consumers are protected and prioritized.

Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal stressed the importance of enforcing accessibility standards and ensuring fair treatment of PWDs in the marketplace. She called for improved awareness campaigns, inclusive complaint resolution mechanisms, and proactive consumer protection policies.

In response, LASCOPA’s General Manager, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, expressed readiness to work closely with LASODA, noting that consumer protection must reflect the diversity of all Lagosians, including those with disabilities.

The meeting concluded with a joint resolution to establish a task team focused on addressing discriminatory practices and promoting inclusivity across public and private service delivery points.
